Submission window: Wednesday, August 17, 2022- Friday, January 13, 2023

The application link for 2022 has closed. All materials need to be received in the FBA office and by jurors by January 13, 2023, to be considered. Note this is not a postmarked date and therefore if you have not submitted an application yet, you will be unable to get all required materials and payments in on time. Thank you for your understanding as we allow time for jurors to deliberate! 

Applicants are encouraged to submit their books early during the submission period and as soon as possible after their books are officially published. Materials must be received in the FBA office and by jurors by January 13, 2023. Winners will be announced the first few weeks in March 2023.

Books submitted into competition must be professionally published between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022, and be assigned an ISBN. 
Books may be submitted into the competition by: 

  • Authors 
  • Publishers
  • Literary agents 
  • Any member of the public. 

It is up to the person submitting the nomination to determine the category (e.g., children's or young adult) or categories in which a book is submitted. You can find the category descriptions here for clarification. Individuals may submit a book into more than one category, but they are required to submit an entry form, an entry fee, and the requisite number of review copies for each category entered. Jury members and Florida Book Awards staff do not make recommendations regarding which category best fits a book.
Submission Process:

(1.) Submit a completed entry form and a $60 fee* for each title that is being entered into the competition. Entry fees are half-price for any submissions after five titles submitted by publishers.

  • All submission fees need to be sent by December 1, 2022
  • A late submission fee of $70 per title is required for books entered after December 1, 2022

How to make a payment: there are 2 different ways- mail a check or pay over the phone with a credit card (we cannot accept online payments at this time):

Call the FBA office at 850-644-5211 and provide your credit card information. This option is available Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9am-12pm. If you'd prefer to schedule a call, email with the subject line Schedule Payment Request.
(2.) A copy of your book needs to be sent to the FBA office and each juror in your category. Most categories have 3 jurors, but not all. You will be sent jury information after you have submitted your application and your entry fee has been paid.  Jury members must receive their copies no later than January 13th, 2023. Books will not be returned to the author and/or publisher.

*Entry fees are made necessary to offset the cost of the Florida Book Awards program, which receives no outside funding.
